Our original "South of the Border" pinto bean recipe. Try it as a soup or side dish at your next Mexican fiesta!

Ingredients

  • 1- Package Hurst's® El Cantarito de Frijoles w/ Seasoning Packet
  • 2- Cups Onion, chopped
  • 2-3 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 16 Cups water
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil

Cooking Directions ( reviews )

  1. Rinse beans thoroughly with cold water. Check for any small stones or debris and discard.
  2. In a large stock pot, sauté onion and garlic in a small amount of cooking oil. When the onion becomes translucent, add the water. Bring to a boil. Add beans and contents of seasoning packet. Cover, reduce the heat, and simmer beans for 1.5-2 hours. Then check the beans for tenderness every 15 minutes. When full cooked, salt and pepper to taste.
